Marcia Ball: The Tattooed Lady & The Alligator Man

Marcia Ball's CD The Tattooed Lady & The Alligator Man

Long Tall Marcia Ball is one of the most honored performers in the Blues field.  She has won nine Blues Music Awards and has been nominated for five Grammys.

Born in Texas but raised in Louisiana, her work emphasizes the very best musical traditions of both.  She claims New Orleans performers as her major inspirations: vocalist Irma Thomas and pianist Professor Longhair. She is a longtime resident of Austin, Texas.

Ball's latest album from Alligator Records, The Tattooed Lady And The Alligator Man, is a continuation of her good-time, blues and boogie-woogie approach to music. She is joined on the disc by special guests Delbert McClinton, Kaz Kazanoff and Terrance Simien, but the spotlight also falls on her band, several members of which have been with her for many years.

She has written nine of the twelve songs on the new album, and collaborated on two others. Highlights include the title track, the Zydeco feel of “The Squeeze Is On,” her soulful treatment of Hank Ballard’s “He’s The One” and the hard-charging “Get You a Woman.”

Those of you familiar with Marcia's work will welcome  The Tattooed Lady And The Alligator Man as the latest edition in her very consistent series of albums over the past thirty years. For those of you just coming to her music,  you are certain to have a joyful experience. And don’t be surprised to see the album nominated for a Blues Music Award or a Grammy!
