Polly Gibbons: "Many Faces of Love"

singer polly gibbons

Polly Gibbons, in her homeland, the United Kingdom, is known as a singer whose bluesy feel is tinged with grit.

She has performed at London hotspots like Ronnie Scott's and Pizza Express. She's been nominated for a BBC Jazz Award, and musically minded folks from Ian Shaw to Van Morrison to Johnny Mandel have given their approval to Gibbons' treatment of originals alongside the nuggets we know.

For Many Faces of Love", her new CD from Resonance Records, Gibbons takes a confident approach to songs like Percy Mayfield's "Please Send Me Someone to Love." "After Hours," made special by Sarah Vaughan, and "Since I Fell for You" also shine.

The CD features pianist Tamir Hendelman, violinist Christian Howes, guitarist Anthony Wilson, bassist Kevin Axt and Ray Brinker on drums.

In London circles, Polly Gibbons has many fans of her style. In the U.S. she now has a chance to show audiences her way of turning a tune, seemingly living a lyric to make it last.

Many Faces of Love comes out February 3rd.
