Warren Wolf: Convergence

Warren Wolf, vibraphone, Convergence, Mack Avenue, jazz, percussion, new

"Convergence" marks the third release for vibraphonist Warren Wolf, and finds him in the company of pianist Brad Mehldau, guitarist John Scofield, drummer Jeff "Tain" Watts and bassist Christian McBride, who also co-produced the record.

There are five funky numbers like "Soul Sister", some aggressive quintet action on "Havoc", inspired by a Scofield tune from the 80's.

Waltz time and Watts sets it up for Warren in quartet to charge ahead on "Four Stars From Heaven".

"Cell Phone" is straight up four to the floor as Wolf & company test the mettle. All good here.

A Stevie Wonder tune, "Knocks Me Off My Feet" gets a nice workout.  Wolf also blends Hoagy Carmichael's "Stardust" with Chopin's "The Minute Waltz".

There's even a gorgeous Wolf duet with pianist Mehldau on Dave Samuels' "New Beginning".

Monk was right. Two is one.

It's all here. It all grooves. Just like Warren Wolf.  "Convergence" comes out June 10th from Mack Avenue Records. Warren tours this summer as a member of SFJazz Collective, and celebrates his new recording July 2nd at Joe's Pub in New York.
