WBGO’s new concert series is produced in partnership with Yamaha Artist Services, at their beautiful newly renovated space on Fifth Avenue in Manhattan. The Yamaha Piano Salon is not open to the general public and is neither a club, nor a traditional music venue. It is a rehearsal/recording/performance space that offers a truly unique way to hear this great music we love in a live setting.

The intimate performances in the series include an interview of the artist by WBGO host Michael Bourne, and are recorded for future broadcast. Attendance at these private events is by invitation only, and exclusively for supporters of WBGO at the Jazz Leadership Society level and specially invited guests of WBGO and Yamaha.

On Thursday, June 23rd, we presented the third concert of the year, featuring Cyrus Chestnut. This performance celebrated his latest release Natural Essence, performed with the rhythm section of Buster Williams (bass) and Victor Lewis (drums). The performance will be broadcast on WBGO and available online in the coming weeks.

Multi Grammy® award winning pianist and composer Billy Childs, kicked off the series on February 3, with his sextet performing the music of Laura Nyro. Click here to listen to the broadcast of this performance.

Paquito D’Rivera, winner of fourteen Grammy® Awards, shared his humor and colorful stories from his new book Letters from Yayito and performed in duet with his regular pianist, fellow Yamaha artist, Alex Brown. The 2016 series will close on Thursday October 20th with a very special event. Details to be announced soon.
